He merely commented it was ‘new’ and pointed to the fan above me trying to stress the fan had made it cold. It was apparent to me then that he spoke little or no English nor Malay. I told him I wanted a ‘new’ one i.e one that was not cold. He took my plate away, seemingly to heat it up, I suppose.
About 5 minutes later with my ‘nasi dagang’ nowhere in sight, I noticed a Malay man ordering the waiters around. I called up to him and put forward my grievances. He then advised me to order something fried. All they had available was the ‘Mee Goreng Mamak’ so I had no choice but to settle for that. It arrived about 10 minutes later, only to be disappointed again. It was dry, tasteless with only a few pieces of fried batter and bits of chicken. I hardly finished half of it, despite the fact that I was hungry.
